Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into our classroom every day with questions, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. Post HURRICANE HARVEY our year started off slowly, our academic and athletic programs were behind the ball, in some cases even without a ball. With a large loss of time, equipment, and spirit we need a little help to put smiles back on the students’ faces.
My school was unreachable for more than a week due to flood waters of Harvey.
I teach at a Title I school in Houston where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My Project
My students will use these drones to literally rise up after Hurricane Harvey's devastation of our area. They will learn the basics of aviation and data collection. They will do this by way of local drone experts from Houston Fire and Rescue visiting our class and describing how they use the technology daily. Students will be able to use the Chromebooks to collect data, complete research, and document this experience.
Please help my students map out our campus and surrounding area using new technology to see the "BIG PICTURE" of the space where they live and grow.

This project integrates STEM, collaboration with our community, and will help build our students' confidence after Hurricane Harvey - while demonstrating firsthand how a community rescues, supports, and rebuilds itself.
