Help me give my students seven powerful tools-Beanbag Seats, Lap Pad, Weighted Turtle, Alphabet Learning Locks, Alpha-Bots, Classroom Magnetic Letters Kit and Super Sticker variety pack so they can better focus, attend and be engaged in their learning.
My students are the strongest people I know. Working as an Elementary Special Education Resource Room Teacher, I get to see the world through my students eyes, see their world perspective. My students accomplish so many wonderful things every single day. Some work on mastering tying one's shoes, confidently reading and feeling like a reader, tracing their name, writing the alphabet, identifying upper and lower case letters, Identifying numbers, counting a group, writing a sentence, or identifying that a sentence begins with a capital letter. My students are outspoken, full of energy, truth speakers, and when they have your trust...they try their personal best! They are definitely the strongest people I know.
I love that my students challenge me and teach me something new every day!
I may not know anything about Pokemon Go, and I have to admit I needed help learning how to use Snapchat. It was my students who taught me how playing Minecraft helped them feel a part of a group by talking and interacting through the game with their peers; and Minecraft was a great high interest topic for their "How-To" writing. I learn and grow right along with my students every single day.
Keeping a child's attention on their school work can be challenging. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. Doing so when a child with autism, ADHD or some other learning disability can be even more challenging. Many of these children have decreased muscle tone or a constant need for movement-based sensory input that contributes to fidgeting, slouching, making it difficult for them to sit still for long periods of time or focus on seated activities, making it tough for them to engage in learning. The Beanbag seats, weighted lap pad and turtle will be such a powerful tool for children that I work with on a daily basis. I have two weighted balls that get passed around and often cause chaos, simply because I don't have enough for my students who are craving the sensory.
The single best predictor of reading achievement is a child's knowledge of and the ability to recognize and name the upper-and -lower-case letters of the alphabet.
The alphabet is still the strongest predictor of reading success in fourth grade. With the magic of the multi-sensory Magnetic Letters, Alphabet Learning Locks, and Alpha-Bots paired with sensory breaks and tools, my students will be able to work toward automatic, accurate recognition of letters which will allow them to have an easier time learning about letter sounds and word spellings than a child who does not know the letters of the alphabet.
