Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
The students in my classroom are students with severe learning and emotional disabilities from a low-income/high poverty community.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive free breakfast and lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly positively enhance their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
All the students will benefit for the Promethean Interactive Board as it makes it easier for the teacher to structure lessons. I can schedule for specific learning tasks like labeling parts of a picture and matching words with their respective meanings. Students can understand how to handle naming tasks quite profoundly as the images are displayed right in front of them. With such technology in class, every student will be anxious to try out how the board works. That can spur the students' enthusiasm to get involved in learning process using the interactive whiteboards. Images and presentations are delivered in full HD display accompanied by interactive computer capabilities.

Whether it's learning vocabulary, pronunciation or exploring a research, students will find a lesson engaging if it integrates text, images, videos and/or audio files. For instance, a teacher can play an audio file to demonstrate the pronunciation of a word displayed on the board.
Lastly, it allows students with various disabilities to enhance their learning. Each student in a class enjoys learning in different ways. While some are good auditory learners(able to learn better with audio), others are great visual learners. So including text, images, audio and video in a presentation allows everyone, including those with learning disabilities, to enjoy the lesson. Hence the use of interactive whiteboards ensures the learning needs of every student are met sufficiently.
