Help me give my students an amazing learning experience to learn and grow with STEM materials. These hands on materials will inspire problem solving, creative thinking, and team work.
I'm about to embark on my fourteenth year of teaching at a Title I urban school in Manchester, NH. Our school has a diverse population serving students with a broad range of needs from socio-emotional to academic.
We are an award winning school who never stops looking for opportunities to grow and benefit students.
Our staff knows what it takes to make learning fun and create a safe and inviting environment for our students. We are innovative and risk takers. We are leaders of new ideas and models for other schools in our district who often come to observe what is going on in our school.
My Project
As a Kindergarten teacher, one of my favorite parts of my school day is when we give our students a STEM challenge. My students immediately become engaged with solving the STEM challenge; the excitement is obvious and contagious. When given their materials they dive right in with the sense of excitement that only the best projects and learning oppertunties can produce.
I adore the sense of wonder, exploration, problem solving, creativity, collaboration, and team work that develops through any STEM challenge.
As their teacher, I stand back in awe as each student, or team of students, put their own creative spin on how to approach the problem. Usually they begin to tackle the challenge in ways I've never considered before. More often, their ideas inspire other ideas from their classmates as they share, plan, build, discuss, create, edit, change, and problem solve.
I love to walk around the classroom asking questions to further develop the learning that is already actively taking place. Allowing the children to take ownership of their ideas while providing support and encouragement is what good teaching is all about.
The materials we requested will be the perfect link between our literacy inquires and our love of STEM challenges. The kit we desire is the perfect age appropriate fit for Kindergarten students. I keep imagining the fun we will have and I can't help but smile with anticipation and glee.
