Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarten is a special time for many of my students. For most, it is their first experience leaving their family and entering the world of schooling and education. This year I am gaining a wonderful group of 1st graders to create my first ever k/1 combo! It is my mission to create an inviting and enriching environment, with materials and hands-on-learning opportunities for my students from day one. Creating a community where students feel they are able to succeed is the main focus for my classroom. The Common Core Curriculum is rigorous and requires my students to be independent and motivated thinkers.
These students are amazing!
My students enter the classroom each morning ready to learn and put their best foot forward! These young minds grow exponentially each day. It is an amazing sight to see. We strive to create a cooperative learning environment where each child is accepted and given the best opportunity to learn.
My Project
Good reading and writing instruction begins with phonological awareness and phonics instruction. I find myself searching the internet to help support my curriculum for supplemental phonics instruction. I have used both of these materials in the past and was in awe of the results.
Secret Stories teaches phonics in a fun and engaging way.
Each “team” has a memorable story to help solidify the pattern for early learners. My favorite is the “aw” / “au” team. Whenever they are together they spread love “awe”.
The “Blue Book” phonological awareness for kindergarten breaks down instruction into easy daily tasks. The curriculum is completed orally and can be done during transition times in less than 10 minutes!
Both of these materials will provide valuable instruction to my classroom!
