My students need magazines to read. By doing this they will be reading quality nonfiction and increasing literacy.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Seniors at Rosamond High School come to class with a variety of skills and challenges. I teach students who struggle with written and oral expression. The majority of my students come from low-income households with parents who do not speak English.
As streaming video has become more available and popular, students are quickly losing skills in reading, writing, vocabulary, and context clues.
There is an increasing need to support student literacy with multiple texts. Not only do they know the variety of reading materials available. they cannot afford to buy them. My goal as their teacher is to provide as much variety in reading as possible.
My Project
Nonfiction literature is just as important as fiction. I want to provide high-interest magazines for student reading. These magazines will be available to students during the class reading time. It is important to expose students to journalism, expository writing, and current events that shape their world. These magazines will not only support literacy, they will allow students to become up-to-date with social, cultural, and world events.
Textbooks are great, but current reporting, journalism, and news allow students to read real-world issues.
I want to provide a well-rounded atmosphere where students read many different genres and explore different kinds of reading.
