This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I've worked at my school on staff with the marching band for five years and became the band director this past school year. I can genuinely say that I work with some of the kindest, most passionate kids I've ever come across. They deeply care about music and their band community.
Richfield, the state of Minnesota's oldest suburb just south of Minneapolis, calls itself an "urban hometown".
We have the community of a small town but the diversity and opportunities of a metropolitan city. Our student body is truly diverse, and we're stronger because of it.
My Project
We are a traditional summer parade marching band that puts together a 100 yard show every year. We've been part of the competitive summer parade scene for 63 years and perform in about a dozen parades each year. This year and moving forward, we're adding electronic features such as solo mics, amplified instruments, and synthesizers.
Adding this generator to our program would have a huge impact on our band's general effect and music scores and would leave a lasting impression on the many communities we play for every summer.
We're bring marching band into the 21st century to remain competitive, and we need the power to make it happen. Last year, we stood out against the competition with our electric violin solo. We even made it into the local paper. We used a boat battery and a power-inverter to power the amp and just barely had enough power. This year, we need to amplify speakers that are capable of running an electric guitar, keyboard, and a trombone solo mic. We're realizing we just need a lot more power to make it happen. This generator has the capability to do this for us and is quiet enough to not be distracting.
