Help me give my students access to a fully charged laptop through a wallmount charging station, and the ability to preserve their final work product with a small office laminator.
My students live in the heart of Silicon Valley. Most of their parents, family members, and/or family friends, are engineers themselves. My little ones are inquisitive and crave ways to connect with their role-models in the community.
They thrive on learning with technology in innovative ways.
My students need to be exposed to it in various ways in order to be the best students they can be, and have the edge to compete with their peers. The neighboring schools have bountiful of opportunities and resources that we do not have. Our students come from various backgrounds. Majority are from the working middle-class families with dual incomes. Others struggle to pay the rent in the many high cost apartments that are in our neighborhood to make sure their children attend a "good" school. We also have students from the local homeless shelter. All the parents work hard to provide the basic needs to their kids in hopes they'll receive the best possible education for their children. We are situated in a very supportive community that embraces all diversities that our children and parents bring to our school culture and community.
My Project
"In a battery, I strive to maximize electrical potential. When mentoring, I strive to maximize human potential." ~ Donald Sadoway. Chromebooks and laptops are a great education tool, but their educational potential cannot be maximized if they run out of battery life before the students are able to complete their projects. We currently do not have the ability to charge and securely store all our classroom laptops & chromebooks.
I use Chromebooks in my classroom in a variety of ways to enrich and innovate lessons.
Aside from accessing the Internet for research, students will also use Google Apps for Education on the Chromebooks and laptops. Students will collaborate on writing, slide show presentations, and gather data with spreadsheets through the use of Google Applications. They will receive feedback in "real time." We will take virtual field trips using Google Maps, and explore many interactive websites to far away places and time to enhance the lessons. Learning about local Native American Indians in the Third grade curriculum, a virtual trip to see the way of life of the Ohlone Indians will help students make connections and extend retention. As part of our Language, Math, and Science curriculum, publishers have made available integral technology components for teacher and student access. However, none of this will be possible if the batteries on the Chromebooks and laptops run down, which is why we need charging stations.
I want to provide my students various opportunities to access and practice academic skills through the ample use of technology. In order for us to start on our educational journey each day, our technology must be fully charged and ready to allow our learners to take full advantage of what is available.
