This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am fortunate to be able to work doing something I am so passionate about in such a progressive and committed school community! Our school is home to a diverse population of PreK-8th grade students. We work to provide every child with a high-quality education by incorporating culturally relevant curricula and practices, academically rigorous coursework, arts-integrated experiences, and socially progressive character education. We have an award-winning Fine Arts program, several extracurricular activities and active parent groups who are dedicated to making our school the best place for all of our students to thrive and learn.

We are a community of learners that get excited about content, learn to put together print and sound and meaning, and care about issues in the world and one another.

I look forward to each day and all of the adventures and learning that take place alongside my eager and inquisitive group of first graders.

My Project

My students need access to great books to become avid readers. There is nothing that makes teaching reading easier, that gets young learners reading with more volume and engagement, or that lifts reading skills higher than a collection of truly fabulous books. To help me achieve these ambitious results, I need to provide my students with a wide selection of books at varying levels.

My goal is to give my students access to award-winning, culturally responsive, contemporary books at the levels they need.

These books will offer an opportunity to grow a positive classroom reading culture that will recruit students to love reading and move them up to levels of complexity. I envision my students engaging with these books and wanting to read more.

Lastly, the read and relax comfy couch will be a great addition to our classroom. My young readers love curling up with a good book and a "reading buddy" (stuffed animal/book character). The couch includes 3 storage cubbies to keep tons of books in easy reach!
