Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
If I were to describe my classroom in five words, they would be: authentic, rigorous, supportive, engaging, and community. The students in my class have ownership of their learning and a lot of what happens, happens organically. My passion for learning is recognized by each and every one of my students. I created an environment where it is essential to take risks and establish deeper learning, having the students engage and become a community. They live by the idea that it is important to always try their bests while using the 7 habits!
But all of my students are in a low-income, high poverty area, and are faced with several challenges both in and outside the classroom.
To combat the challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful experiences. Can you help us close the achievement gap for the students who do not have the necessary materials to succeed?
My Project
While assessment gets all the press, it is feedback for learning that can transform a student’s learning. As teachers, we want to do everything in our power to give feedback to our students. However, it is in the other times that we have to dig deep to find an appropriate feedback response that will not discourage a student’s learning. We are also not always with every child to give them the feedback they need. This is where Power Pens come into play, especially in my classroom.
Power Pens work with a card set and provides instant feedback that all children enjoy!
Children SIMPLY press the pen to a card to choose an answer, then hear a kid-friendly phrase for correct answers and gentle redirection for incorrect responses.
