My students are special because they are diverse learners. Many of us are familiar with three general categories in which people learn: visual learners, auditory learners, and kinesthetic learners. Beyond these three general categories, many theories of and approaches toward human potential have been developed. Among them is the theory of multiple intelligences, developed by Howard Gardner, Ph.D., Professor of Education at Harvard University. I believe that all children should be exposed to materials and experiences that foster their strengths and develops their weaknesses.
My students are all unique: some are auditory learners, some bodily-kinesthetic, some are naturalists, many are visual learners.
Intelligence is not one dimensional. There are so many ways that we are intelligent.
My Project
The requested materials will inspire children to love mathematics and science through engaging manipulatives and books. Learning will come alive when students are able to use the fraction manipulatives collaboratively to explore and extend their learning. They will be able to experience the beauty of the undersea world and imagine its possibilities through a guided reading lesson with Giant Squid. In addition to that they will be able to understand the anatomy of a flower through observing and studying a model of a cross-section of a plant. It is so beneficial when teaching concepts in science and math to be offered the opportunity to utilize models and diagrams. Many (most) students are kinesthetic and visual learners who need more than what a textbook can offer. With models, manipulatives and quality literature, children will have differentiated opportunities to succeed. I am excited to share and implement these resources with my students. I know that they will learn and I will make a difference. Thank you.
