Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a growing school district, my students face challenges both in and out of the classroom.
Fifth graders seek freedom to move, explore, and learn about everything that surrounds them.
Fifth grade students are determined, creative, adventurous and thrive on their personal successes. They love being active in sports and at school. They love to read, share their experiences, and enjoy lots of positive attention. When students enter our classroom they learn that it is okay to FAIL, since it is their "Fist Attempt In Learning." As a teacher I cannot provide everything they may want or need in their home lives, however, I seek to create a home within our classroom and treat each other as family. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I work hard to inspire all learners to reach and attain their personal academic excellence.
My Project
Fifth graders may be the big kids on campus but still have lots to learn. Some students are self motivated to learn in any environment while others need a little more incentive and excitement to discover new knowledge. How can sitting at a desk and still in a chair allow their brains to grow, explore, and discover the world around them? It is important to provide them with an environment conducive to the freedom of learning at their pace and develop excitement to learn on their own.
Students will hold the POWER to learn in a comfortable and motivating environment with their CHOICE of Flexible Seating.
Wobble cushions, comfy seats, and active learning stools will motivate students to take responsibility for their own learning. With over sixty fifth graders rotating through my language arts and social studies classroom they will have a chance to pick what suits them best. They will be able to enjoy reading a great book in comfy seats, wobbling while participating in collaborative discussions, or being excited to develop their writing while moving in their stools making those creative gears in their brain start turning. Fifth graders will truly discover their own POWER is discovering it exists in their OWN learning.
