My Students
I am an art educator in a low-income school district in south west Oklahoma who wishes to give her students every advantage. With such negativity around our children, I want them to be able to walk into my room and feel safe, wanted and heard. That is what art gives these kids, a voice. They pride themselves as watermelon farmers. They're hard workers with big hearts who, I know if they could, would fund a worthwhile program such as our art dept. However, most of them are unable to help. That is why I am asking for help.
My room gives these kids the space and time to express themselves safely and without judgment through a creative outlet.
My Project
I do not want to start just any ceramic studio, but rather, I want my students to be able to study and apply ceramic skills from primitive to modern pottery.
We will learn how to harvest our clay and will accomplish multiple forms of firings techniques throughout time and around the world.
Each project will be based on the craftsmanship and the firing process of a specific time period throughout history. The first known potter's wheel dates back to the Bronze Age. With pottery wheels, I believe we will be able achieve our all-embracing historical experience of pottery around the world.
Almost anyone can grow their skills as a potter with the right tools, techniques and inspiration, and these kids deserve this experience!
