Help me give my students Kiln Safety items: vent, safety screen, kiln wash, 2 pottery wheels, decorating wheel for hand building, and under glazes for student projects.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are excited about creating. Our school is located in the rural Mississippi Delta. We are a Title I school where 100% of our students qualify for free lunch. My students don't have many opportunities outside of school to explore the arts. We are a very small community.
My students are so excited to learn about artists and mediums.
I enjoy seeing the excitement in their eyes. When students create artwork, they are filled with pride and love to show it to their other teachers.
My Project
My students received a kiln! But we need safety items to insure that all students are able to create and be safe. We need a kiln vent to keep the air safe for students while firing out kiln. We need a shelf furniture kit to fire many items at once. We also need kiln shelf wash- this keeps the glaze if it runs from sticking to the shelf and kiln during firing. We also need a slab roller and wheels for hand build projects.
Students would love to learn how to use a pottery wheel- so, two pottery wheels so two students can throw at the same time- with help from their teacher (me)!
We also are requesting underglaze paint sets (2) for students to experiment with techniques.
Thank you for checking out our project for students to learn about different methods of creating pottery! There is science and creativity to be learned through this project- glazes, firing, and changes students will observe in the clay. This project will reach all my students!
