I teach at a magnet school for gifted and high-achieving students. We serve students in grades 6-12 from throughout our district. Students test for admission, and most students are functioning above the 90th percentile. All students are working at least one grade level above their actual age. The students in my school are a true melting pot of nationalities, religions, and economic levels, but the common trait that they have is the love of being challenged and learning new things. My students challenge each other, and me, to learn more and do their very best, both in and out of the classroom!
My Project
Throughout the year, we have been preparing to host a Prom Fest following our Junior and Senior Prom. We've held fundraisers and the students worked hard to make this happen.
With our school closed until the end of April, it is very likely that prom will be canceled or postponed.
Although we may have no control over that, we are planning to still host PromFest 2020 for our Juniors and Seniors. It may look different and be held later in the summer - but these kids deserve happy memories to end this most unusual school year.
Although we are unsure when this will happen - we want to have everything in place so we are ready to roll when we get the "all clear". Our event includes free activities and food for all of the juniors and seniors - plus chances to win great prizes that 17 and 18-year-olds want - or need - for college!
The bikes, bike locks, air mattress and LED lights would be perfect additions for our PromFest! These kids had a rough end of the school year - help us provide a little magic to make up for it!
