Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My new students are a lively bunch, and even more importantly, are students that are motivated to learn. Many are artistic, but are also serious about their academics as they strive to succeed and to surpass those who came before them. To add, many are English Language Learners, with a third of them receiving Special Ed services.
As a school located in New York, my school serves a majority of Hispanic students faced with the rigorous challenge of learning the language and competing academically with the rest of the country.
That being said, they still maintain their spirit and show a great deal of promise!
My Project
Often times students come across important lines and quotes within the texts they read. However, in many cases, they simply notice and move on especially since the class sets are reused the following year and students cannot write in the books.
Post-its and flags will allow my students to not only mark important moments in the books they read, they will allow them to write down their reactions, inferences, connections, and questions.
To add, students can participate in interactive activities where they also display their thoughts and reactions. These post-its and flags will support visual and kinesthetic learners in their learning process.
