Poster Presentation at a Professional Science Conference
My students need 2 night's accommodations in Boston, Ma, mass transportation cards along with a few other expenses while traveling to and presenting at a professional science conference.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I meet with a small group of advanced students twice a week after school to study the molecular structure of various proteins and to conduct DNA analysis for specie identification. My school is an urban public school serving students who have set the goal of attending college upon high school graduation. This goal is explicit since the high school is associated with a community college and most students complete several college level courses prior to graduation. The student population is 27% Black or African American, and 70% Hispanic or Latino, while 70% qualify for free or reduced lunch.
My Project
How can we protect the biodiversity of a forest without first knowing the variety of the species found within the forest? How can we preserve the biodiversity of a tree species if we are not certain of the genetic boundary of the species? These are just some of the questions asked by my students as they prepare their primary research posters to present at a professional scientific conference to be held this spring.
The Northeast Natural History Conference (NENHC)will host over 144 PowerPoint presentations by graduate students, university professors and professional conservationists.
There will be 139 poster presentations given by undergraduate students two of which will be given by my students. By designing and presenting a poster these students not only learn to carry-out primary research concerning extremely complex science concepts, but they have exposure to a variety of academic research and career opportunities that can only be found at a conference like NENHC.
