My Students

My students are a beautiful mixture of personalities and abilities. Sixth grade is their first year in middle school. They are coming from 4 elementary "feeder" schools, so they enter a little nervous and exit a teenager. Scary.

My biggest obstacle is keeping my students engaged.

Engagement = interactive, collaborative and FUN. Every year I have the one "study" student. They are the one that tells you if they are engaged, then the rest of the classroom is with them.

My Project

My sixth grade students need everyday materials for getting their work done in order to learn. Some students enter the classroom with supplies that exceed to expectations of their list, while others enter with bare bones. We often have team members who are a part of local churches that are able to provide some supplies, but the rest are covered by me!

However, that excludes many of the materials that students will be using in the classroom during my instruction.

Post its track their thinking through a text in reading and charting paper, we chart so many things to create tools for our room and their learning.
