My students are in rural area outside of the city of Dayton, Ohio. My students are from a low income population and many of them reside with their grandparents or other family members. My students are eager to learn and are eager to come to school daily. Most of my students are African-American students. Academic wise, they are below grade level. I would love to provide all of their needs, but as we know, that is not possible. I love them as if they were my own, and I do as much as possible for them inside and outside of the classroom. They are a great bunch of students.
Creating Anchor Charts is essential. Students will have a visual reminder of what and how to do math problems, proper steps of how and when to use correct punctuation, and so many other cues and reminders. We fill our walls with Anchor Charts, and my students enjoy helping make them. Anchor Charts are essential to learning. Being able to see examples of how to complete a math problem or how to write a complete sentence helps students learn and grasp the lesson taught, and often students do not like to raise their hand and ask questions in the presences of their peers; therefore, Anchor Charts will give them assurance and the confidence in knowing how to solve problems without the embarrassment or shame of asking questions aloud.
