My students live in a neighborhood that has been affected by flooding 3 times in the last 2 years. The latest one being the consequence of the Hurricane Harvey.
Students at my school are exposed to foreign language and culture.
In pre-K, they study French once a week. In KG, they rotate thru all 3 languages taught: French, Spanish and Chinese. Finally in 1st grade, they choose one and study it until they leave at the end of 5th grade. They study the language 4 times a week for 45 minutes.
Our school ranks well and students earn high marks on standardized and national tests and contests. Our population is diverse socio-economically and comes from all over the world.
My Project
The costumes will help my students perform in order to show case the French classroom during school events and to show case the school at public events in the Houston area.
My students learn French songs and perform short skits in order to use their French language in context.
Hence, they need to wear berets, t-shirts with stripes, and t-shirts with French symbols. These will help portray the French character of the play.
Most of my students' families cannot afford to buy these costumes. I used to have some in my former classroom but all was destroyed during Hurricane Harvey.
