I teach second grade at Whitesides Elementary. I have written a two week unit based on the children's book “Possom Magic” by Australian author, Mem Fox. The unit will be used to teach about Australian animals, food, and geographic locations. The students will have curriculum objectives in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, social studies, and science based on the book. I am having a Possom Party at the culmination of the unit to show the parents and the school community the students' research projects and to share the book on which the unit is based. I would love to be able to give every child their own copy of the book to use with this unit. Many of my students have a love for reading and would be thrilled to have this book. Others need a book of their own to spark the fire within and to urge them to share reading in their homes. I think having a copy of this book would help this learning experience be one that these students, years from now, would reflect back on and say, "Do you remember when we were in Mrs. Douglas's class and we all received a book from a wonderful donor..." Thank You.
