Positive Vibes to Improve Success

Help me give my students a safe place in high school! My students crave acceptance and to know that there is someone that supports them unconditionally at school.

My Project

Every student deserves to feel special and cared for in school. My classroom is a safe haven for a variety of students; ranging from those with autism, anxiety, and ADHD. Every student who walks in my classroom needs something to be successful in school.

Some students need learning materials and help with assignments, others need a caring adult to listen to them, and still others just need a quiet and calm place to reduce anxiety.

The materials I have requested will continue to maintain the safe space I have created for my students. The low lighting can provide a calming effect that reduces anxiety and promotes focus. Students have a variety of options for seating... comfy chairs, bouncy chairs, floor chairs, or bean bags. My students also require items to address their sensory needs such as fidgets, blankets, and weighted stuffed animals. Another strategy that students choose to lower anxiety is to color motivational pages, which is why I am requesting coloring books and markers.

In my social skills class, we play games to encourage social interaction as well as decrease technology usage. Games are a great way for my students to practice the conversational skills they learn.

My goal is for every student to know they have a caring adult in the building that will help them build confidence which will lead to their success. I treasure each student that crosses my path and feel pride when they walk across the stage on graduation day!
