This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is located in the heart of the North Houston, TX and serves over 400 scholars from within this community. We are a Title I, PK-5 campus with an enrollment of 19% Hispanic students, 77% African American, 1% Caucasian, 0.2% Asian American. Our campus is 91% economically disadvantaged and 100% of our scholars receive free lunch. We serve 11% English Language Learners who are considered Limited English Proficient (LEP).
Your support will help our students close the achievement gap and be engaged in literacy and math.
My Project
I am requesting a treasure box and treats for my classroom to engage students in literacy and social studies. This will make it easier for the teacher to figure out learning gaps.
My student need multiple opportunities to be introduced to literature.
We currently use positive reinforcement through Classroom Dojo. Tying reinforcers to a point system, our students can see the value in working hard and being a great student. Students are learning math and financial skills because they're able to use their money to earn rewards such as the treasure box. Students earn money through the Dojo app. Once a month, my students will be able to cash out their money for rewards like treasure chest. These items will be going into the treasure chest as an incentive for students.
