Help me give my students tools to build resilience and skills to assist in navigating the challenges they face in their personal and school interactions. Positive Psychology practices will aid them in managing life's stresses and finding success.
The events of the past few years have left us all trying to find our "normal." Students are struggling to navigate the changes inherent in adolescence while processing the events of a world-wide pandemic, economic upheaval, and political discontent. My students in the Special Education population need extra support to adapt.
This project focuses on providing students with knowledge and experience in evidence-based practices which are proven to contribute to a feeling of well-being and increased resilience.
Positive Psychology is the study of the practices which bring the most happiness and meaning into an individual's life. Positive Psychology focuses on building the person up using their personal strengths through applied practices.
Using these Donors Choose materials, my students will study the theory behind Positive Psychology and then engage in self-directed projects to prove the effects of positive practices. At the end of each week, the students will have the opportunity to share their observations and experiences in a group setting.
This project will not only improve the student's feeling of well-being, but it will also improve school attendance, grades, test scores, and feelings of inclusion and safety, with benefits that will endure with them for the rest of their lives.
