My students need positive behavior rewards such as: pencils, backpacks, balls, journals, crayons, LEGO bricks, markers, books, and snacks for our PBIS Store.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a PBIS school. This means that instead of correcting behaviors with automatic negative consequence, we teach them the desired behavior/ action before they receive a punishment. This provides us the opportunity to celebrate our student's successes with daily Ram Bucks, and quarterly Rams Rallies. Student's are rewarded for good behavior (less than two referrals), good attendance (no unexcused absences), good grades ( A/B/C's, as not everyone is an A/B honor roll student), and students who show the most growth throughout the school year. Because our school is a Title I school, all of our students receive free breakfast, and most of them also receive free/reduced lunch. Our students often do not have the same experiences as neighboring school districts, but we strive to offer as many opportunities possible.
Rewarding positive behavior builds strength of character in students.
In order to continue to promote positive behavior, our students need to see rewards in a more consistent manner. By doing so, they can learn the benefits of using that positive behavior even in their future careers.
My Project
As the school's PBIS Coach and EIP Math Resource Teacher, I work with every student in our school. I see the need for positive rewards that our students will work towards.
We would like to create a school store, where students can spend their RAMS Bucks which they have earned for following our school expectations.
Students are expected to be a R.A.M. each day: Respect everyone, Act appropriately, Make safe choices, and Show responsibility. When students are caught doing the right thing, they are rewarded with a RAMS Buck, which they can use at our RAMS Store.
Our RAMS Store needs to carry items the kids want, and that they will work towards earning. We need books, journals, markers, pencils, backpacks, games, LEGO bricks, balls, and snacks. My students enjoy earning rewards and showing that they not only are making academic achievements, but also growth in their behavior.
