Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bright and creative third graders. Every day they come to school eager to see what the day will bring, often arriving early to help me set up for the day and chat. They love to take charge of their own learning through goal setting and picking where they learn best. I love seeing how engaged they are when they get to choose their own learning journeys.
At our school, 76% of students are English language learners and 94% of students are eligible for the free/reduced lunch program.
Our school community is tight-knit and we take care of each other with the resources that we have. I am inspired by the energy and enthusiasm of my students and their families.
My Project
Portfolio creation gives each student the opportunity to reflect, goal-set, celebrate, and showcase their hard work. Students have already started organizing and collecting assignments they are most proud of so far this year, as well as work that highlights areas of personal growth. They can't wait to have a binder and organizational materials of their own to start curating their chosen pieces, written reflections, and short-term goals.
At the end of each trimester, students will use their portfolios to lead their families on a student led conference.
