Preschool is about the journey as much as the outcome at the end of the year. I want to document this journey for my students.
My pre-k students are four and five year olds who attend a public school in Texas.
My students are either English as second language learners or come from poverty situations. Many of my students are experiencing their first opportunity to work puzzles, read books, paint, build with blocks, or interact with other children their own age. They walk into my classroom each day with such joy on their faces and an eagerness to learn. I am privileged to work with these children every day!
My Project
Each six weeks of our school year, I collect samples of my students' work, including writing samples, cutting samples, written observations from the teacher, and several photographs of the students working in learning centers. In order to organize the work, I need pocket dividers. Having the work samples organized helps parents to see the growth their child has made throughout the school year.
Portfolios are a wonderful way to keep a record of students' growth throughout the year, but it is also a happy memory book for the students to have to remember their year in pre-k.
It gives the students great pride to see how they wrote their name at the beginning of the year, and how much clearer they are able to write it at the end of the year.
