Portable Display Walls Needed for Student-Hung Art Shows
My students need a mesh display wall system on wheels for hanging biannual student art shows. Our middle school currently has to borrow heavy display panels from other schools and we risk injuring them by truck.
My students are typical middle-schoolers. They are finding themselves through many ways including STEAM, sports, writing, music, and the arts. Our music department is great and I have been working to also build up the art department. Students continue to join me after school for art club even when there are many, many choices for them.
Art class and club are safe places for many to express themselves.
They love hanging out together and creating. Art classes are becoming stronger and prouder. We began having student art shows last fall and continued again last spring and this fall. It is great to see the school community come enjoy the work and be surprised.
My Project
My students work all semester to produce quality work for their art show at the end of the semester. This year, students were excited to have their principal place ribbons, get awards, and be announced just like in sports and music. What their art show lacks is a display system that is manageable. We currently borrow from other schools and set up their heavy boards in our multipurpose room. We have to arrange to use them when they are not. Once their boards arrive, we set them on legs and pin artwork to the boards.
If we had a light-weight mesh display board system of our own, it would be easier to access, hang art, and move around the school.
We could use s-hooks and clips to hang instead of pins to keep from puncturing artwork. We would be able to prep displays in our art room and then move to gallery locations all semester long.
