Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"A great teacher loves teaching others to love learning." -Anonymous author. My project, "Portable Desks," was created to expand the opportunity for my students to work in environments that meet their individual needs. When students are comfortable, they grow as learners, socially and cognitively.
My 2nd grade classroom is composed of 7-8 year-old boys and girls.
Each student brings a unique attribute that molds our "classroom family." As a first year teacher, they are the best group of students I could have asked for. My students are respectful, responsible, and hungry learners.
My Project
I have wanted clipboards in my classroom since the beginning of the school year. When you begin your teaching career, you are given a certain amount of supplies and then rummage through closets of used materials. Having my own classroom set of clipboards will allow my students to work around the room. My classroom is large and has a comfortable reading corner. We do a lot of work on the reading corner carpet and in-front of the Smartboard. Unfortunately, my students are not able to work/write on the carpet because they do not have a hard surface. Clipboards would be awesome! My students would be able to work with me on the carpet, collaborate with other students around the room, and find a cozy spot away from their desk to think.
If my first project is funded, I will be forever grateful.
A set of clipboards will not only benefit my current students, but my students to come! I thrive to provide my students an environment where they feel comfortable, safe, and enjoy learning. Something as small as letting them work anywhere in the room, is a large gift for 2nd graders. They love to be outside of their desks, and work just as hard.
