A typical day in my classroom starts out with enthusiasm and promise. Students enter and sit down and we immerse ourselves in the wonder of the history of our Modern World. Noon hour arrives and things start to heat up, not in a joy of learning way, but in actual temperature.
The school is very diverse with students coming from all socioeconomic levels.
The ethnic breakdown of the student body is 33% white, 26% Asian, 22% Hispanic, 10% African American, 7% Pacific Islander, and 2% other. This diverse group of students is a great mix as the students self-integrate. The students do have community and educational support, however, many challenges remain for such a diverse group of young people. Even with these challenges my students are eager to learn and are full of hope for the future.
My Project
The classrooms at my high school are old and do not have A/C. The rooms are HOT in the summer, and students literally sweat while sitting in the early fall and late spring months. Temperatures in the classroom can reach the high 90s on certain days. The A/C Unit and fan will help to cool the students and allow them to remain focused and alert. With a cool classroom the students can focus on lessons such as simulations of the French Revolution, and the life and times of such inspirational figures as Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela.
Students at my school are enthusiastic about learning.
With your help, these requested items will significantly improve my students learning environment. Instead of being oppressed by the stifling heat, students will be able to expend their energy fully concentrating on the lessons at hand.
