Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students generally come from low-income families that live around the school neighborhood located in the Southeast area of San Diego. Most of my students are African American and Latino, followed by students from the Pacific Islands or Asian backgrounds.
Our school is a unique place.
The school has a great percentage of students with special needs; therefore, our school needs to be equipped with technological devices, lab tools and materials, and other resources that will guarantee that all students have what they need to learn and succeed adequately.
My Project
My students enjoy reading fiction and nonfiction books. However, our classroom library needs additional book selections that I know they would enjoy reading. Most of the books are popular titles in science and gender inclusion.
Additionally, an inviting seating would attract students to the special library corner where they can read fictional and nonfiction books.
My students themselves requested some of the science books in this project. They also suggested a more comfortable seating than the one they are experiencing every day. The purpose of this project is to create a place in the classroom where my students could finally call their own and read their favorite book selection.
