Our small rural school in Arkansas has many students who speak English as a second language. It is common for students to come to our school from out of the country, and these students know no English. We have a fabulous ESL department who works hard to help these students learn English to be able to understand what is happening in their classes, but it takes a while to learn a new language. Our library has some books in Spanish, but many of them are geared toward younger elementary students; our 4th-6th grade Spanish only speakers are left with very few choices.
This project will help me provide those students who are learning English with engaging titles in their language to help them learn to love reading.
It is so important for developing readers to enjoy what they read. These books will help me offer ALL of my students popular titles they can enjoy.
