Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our middle school is in a low-income, urban setting. Students come from diverse backgrounds. We have many English Language Learners and special needs students. This is just part of what makes our school so special.
My favorite thing about my students is how eager they are to learn.
School is a safe space where they can explore their potential. My job is to teach students to read and write but they do so much more when they walk through that door. They collaborate, they struggle, and they learn that with hard work they can grow as students and people.
My Project
Pop quiz: How do you get kids to read? The answer is that you have to give them books they WANT to read. With so many fantastic young adult books on the market there is no excuse to not read.
A well-stocked classroom library is the best way to create passionate readers.
Students need to have access to books that fit their interests and their reading abilities. I truly believe everybody is a reader but they need to find the right books first. Middle schoolers love new things so whenever new books are added to the classroom library they are excited to read them.
Help increase my students' love of reading by building our classroom library to better meet their needs!
