My Students
My students are from a low-income Maine town and are faced with many challenges in and out of school. Our class sizes are large, and I am looking for a way to create a student library that will keep them interested in various genres of books. While we have amazing exposure to wildlife, natural resources, and a supportive community, my students are lacking access to an updated library.
My students are bright, energetic, self-motivated, and eager to explore and learn about the world around them.
In the past few years, I have noticed that my students are incredibly interested in historical fiction books, science fiction books, and dystopic books. I am looking to inspire independent learning and life long interest in reading. I am looking to inspire young readers!!
My Project
My students are active readers who devour books that capture their attention. These books will continue to enhance the modern library that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy. My students love to explore new authors and genres and become emersed in the stories that they read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. I have determined which books to complete my library based on the books that are most often taken out at the school library as well as the books that my students recommend to their peers in book talks. I would love to have the ability to provide these titles in my classroom library. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy their independent reading.
My students need popular books because when they read books that they are interested in, they read more.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose books that interest them. They will also be able to choose from a wide variety of current authors and titles. Studies have shown that the best way to increase reading ability is to read more. My students have already shown their desire to read books that they can relate to. Many of these books contain main characters that are similar in age to my students. This allows my students to connect to a wide variety of genres by taking the perspective of the main character. This project will only help enrich their experiences and love for reading.
