Our school is located in a high-poverty, rural community. Our students love hands-on activities. They are very energetic and need to get up and get moving on a daily basis. As a teacher in a low-income district, where many of our children live in single-parent households and receive a free or reduced-price lunch, I know that it is imperative to try to provide the best experiences for my students in the classroom as well as out of the classroom.
Since our students are young learners, we try and make our classroom as warm and welcoming as possible and also provide a very rigorous learning environment for them.
We want each and every one of them to have the best educational advantage a young learner can possibly have. The students live in a digital world and thrive with hands-on activities. Traditional teaching does not work anymore. Students are energetic and need to get up and get moving throughout the school day. Creating environments to be able to meet all the needs of students, in a variety of ways, is crucial for our students to master concepts and be successful.
My Project
Poppers seem to be all the rage right now! What better way to learn to log in than using a popper keyboard to practice!
Logging in for our Kindergarten students is very difficult.
We need to find ways to make it engaging and fun to practice.
Our students use Chromebooks and able to use a QR code when logging in. However, the ultimate goal is for them to learn their username and password and to key it correctly as it will be their login credentials until they enter 5th grade.
When they have computer class, it takes them months to learn because they only do it once a week. It's just chaos, as you can imagine! With these awesome popper keyboards, those grade levels will be able to practice over and over while having fun! They will learn faster and be able to get to the fun stuff sooner. Students will gain confidence in the computer lab because they will know their login and are more comfortable with the keyboard, making lessons less frustrating for them! Our special needs students will benefit from these keyboards as well! Just asking for one class set that will be disinfected between use. Thank you!
