My students need 2 mythology books, 2 pop-up books to use as examples, 10 pairs of scissors, 4 pairs of loop scissors, glue sticks, paper, and acrylic paint.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
We all know the power of teamwork. In the high-need community where I teach, the school family fills many of the traditional family roles and older students often mentor and tutor younger students. We are family!
My middle school art students always ask to work with the younger students--they love to be the experts and gain confidence when they can guide young students! For this project, seventh grade students will create mythology pop-up books that they will read with first graders. Since we have not received funding for supplies in three years, we are dire need of art supplies to make this project a success!
In order to inspire my students, we need some examples of pop-up books and mythology books. We also need basic art supplies such as paint, heavy-duty paper, and scissors to actually create the books. I'd also like to purchase 4 pairs of loop scissors for students who have difficulty with fine motor skills.
With your help, we can continue to foster positive creative relationships between middle school students and elementary students. My students need to feel that they have something to share with younger students and their art means something to someone else! Thank you for your support!
