My Students

I teach 80, amazing, middle schoolers 6-8 in a predominantly African American, Title I, inner-city Miami school. My students are eager to learn and are very creative, resilient, and kind. Although my students come in ready to learn every day, they don't always have the materials necessary to complete all our tasks for the day or the things that we need to keep our classroom clean and healthy. My students and I would be so grateful to receive new materials and resources that they can use to help them prepare for middle school and beyond!

My Project

At times, good grades are not enough motivation for children. Students look forward to tangible opportunities for joy and celebration. Extrinsic motivation is at times a tool for academic success, especially when keeping our eyes on the prize.

These materials will allow our school community to celebrate our scholars' successes, reinforcing and propelling student engagement and academic efforts.

It will also allow us to provide a snack during the school day to students that are hungry.

Bi-weekly, we will celebrate scholars' achievements, recognizing them for attendance, scholarship, tenacity, advocacy, and respect.

We will host a mini carnival in our auditorium for students to celebrate with peers and other members of our school community.
