Help me give my students who are focusing on functional academics and life skills an 8 ounce Great Northern Black Bar Style Lincoln Popcorn Machine, SunnyPop popcorn, popcorn bags, and disposable food prep gloves for their class business!
My students are unique in each and every way! I teach a wide range of students with multiple disabilities in the 6th through 8th grades. Each student is able to use their unique strengths and abilities to learn and practice a variety of academic, behavioral, social, and transition skills. We work together to increase our functional skills in reading, writing, and math, and support each other in becoming as independent as possible within our school and community.
Peer interaction is a key component in fostering communication, behavior, and social skills for students with multiple disabilities.
I am extremely grateful that our school community is wonderful in this respect. They encourage and support my students in participating in classes and activities alongside their peers, not only at school but also in the community. The enjoyment and smiles on my students' faces says it all of the impact inclusion and acceptance has on their self-esteem and greater well-being!
My Project
As a way to increase opportunities for students with multiple disabilities to be included with peers, our class will sell popcorn to all students in our school using a smart snack eligible, gluten-free popcorn called SunnyPop. Your donation will provide the initial start-up supplies needed for my students to start their class popcorn business.
Pop Into Inclusion will provide my students with the ability to participate in a real-life application of functional academic skills related to fractions, measurement, money, and following step-by-step recipe directions as they prepare and sell their popcorn.
They will also be able to practice a variety of communication and transition skills related to their individualized education programs and increase interaction with peers and teachers throughout the building. All of these skills combined help to increase job skills for students with multiple disabilities, which ultimately assists them in becoming as independent as possible for the future.
