I teach at a Title I, inner-city school in North Carolina where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. About 40-50 of my students receive backpack food on the weekend.
Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best.
They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day. We have 5 EC classes that have a wide spectrum of students that learn in many different ways, and having visual and tactile equipment help them learn better.
My Project
The use of pool noodles in class will allow my Pre-K students and Kindergarten students a safe piece of equipment to play with without having the fear of getting hit by it and getting hurt. They will also allow me to create some obstacle courses to allow my special needs students visual as well as tactile feedback as they play without fear of getting hurt. The noodles and the rings with ribbons will also be used for visual as well as sensory as i build stations that incorporate dangling noodles and rings. The Foam Create Beams will be used by as a safe soft beam to walk across and will allow the students the chance to use their own imagination and create their own obstacle course.
