My students, in this low-income/high poverty inner city school district, live in an area where drugs, gangs, and unemployment run rampant. My classroom is full of a large group of diverse students, with varying interests. My classes are a group of amazing students that come from a variety of cultural backgrounds and receive free lunch.
My students are imaginative, adept, and curious.
This is because they are looking for simple joy in their lives. Finding activities they are excited about can be a challenge. However, I find that they are willing to try anything. My goal is to captivate them with fun and positive activities that can be remembered and used for the rest of their lives.
My Project
Boredom is creeping in with some of our PE units. It is becoming harder to excite students to actually get out and play when they have access to so much technology. Playing the same games over and over, even changing up the rules trying to garner excitement, doesn't always work.
But, I believe changing the game entirely can increase engagement and excitement levels for my students!
Students who are exposed to one thing will only experience one thing. I would like to expand my students horizons by introducing to them a game that combines soccer and field hockey skills. Ultra Foam Polo is a kinder way to incorporate a game for those students that have a fear of balls and other flying objects, this equipment will not hurt if hit. The equipment is also light weight and easy to use. This should allow them to relax and learn to play while enjoying the activity. This game, like many other cooperative team games, encourages athletes to work together for a common, positive goal. Which is always a game changer!
