My students need poetry that will make them smile, think, and begin to gather ideas and writing styles that they might use as they write poetry!

My Students
Our school has 16 classrooms. We are a true neighborhood school: about 80% of our students walk to school.
Parents walk or drive their children to school each day and this is a great way for their day to begin!
Our school day begins early in the morning and many of my students are waking up as they enter class. Our 5th graders take turn being crossing guards for everyone who walks.
We write at the end of the day. We have been reading poems aloud throughout this school year.
My Project
Now is the time to add more and more poetry books to our classroom collection of poetry! My wonderful students will want to read, get inspired, read aloud and gain ideas for when they write poetry.
It is time to add a wide variety of poetry books to our classroom collection.
This will help them find topics that they want to know more about, read aloud to a classmate or the class, too!
Books about Haiku such as: Dogku (a book about dogs) and Guyku (a book about boys) will be some fun poetry books to read in class!
What poems have inspired you throughout your life?
