My Students

From lyrics to limericks, poetry inspires students to think creatively and to make an emotional connection to literature. Our students need poetry books in the library that expose them to the rich world of creative writing.

Our school is a free, public charter high school that is open to any area student who is willing to undertake a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum.

Students come from a variety of backgrounds, and many are from high-poverty areas in Oklahoma. Our goal is to prepare all students to attend a 4-year university, regardless of what their educational experience might have been prior to high school. Many of our students are the first in their families to attend high school, and will be the first of their relatives to attend college.

My Project

We'd like 25 poetry books for our library media center, to promote literacy and students' emotional connection to literature. Our wish list includes poetry books by a diverse group of authors and anthologies of American and British poetry. Our students have come to the library seeking poetry for a variety of reasons, and our collection needs to be updated to meet their needs.

Students looking for poems may be working on literature projects, seeking stimulation for their creative writing endeavors, or just hoping to be entertained and emotionally connected.

Poetry books in our media center will help them find the inspiration they seek!
