Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach fourth grade at an awesome Title I, neighborhood school in Coconut Creek, Florida. My students are a diverse group with various learning needs and challenges. Many come from different countries. For many of them English is their second language. My students are motivated by hands-on, real-world, engaging activities. They love reading and math and learning new concepts daily.
We are a Title I school which means that more than 60% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunches.
My Project
My students need a reliable printer to publish their writing and poetry. Encouraging students to become writers and poets is easier when they view their final product just as it would be if it were published.
My goal is to help students bring poetry to life!
Students need to see that poetry can be fun and easy to understand.
Many students, especially ESOL students, struggle with figurative language in poetry. Therefore, they feel like they don't connect with this type of writing. However, showing them the different types of poetry will hopefully spark an interest. Having them publish their poems will surely get them excited!
