The students at my school are sharp thinkers. They are opinionated and love a good argument. Although I consider it a part of my job to be engaging, it's my students who are making for some really memorable teaching and learning experiences.
My students love reading stories that present controversial scenarios and raise provocative questions.
Such stories provoke intense debates and conversations, which in turn generate powerful writing. Though my students' reading levels vary greatly (2nd grade to college-level), all of them are animated and insightful thinkers.
Therefore, I consider it a vital mission to help secure reading material of all genres and levels to sustain the passionate thinking and knowledge-building my students exhibit every day.
My Project
My students are poets at heart and providing them books of poetry will help them grow as readers and writers of verse.
My students crave poetry—as they see the world through the lens of poets.
They feel emotion intensely—and often write poems to channel pain and share the wealth of their happiness. They are excited to begin our poetry unit and can't wait to get their hands on our class set of poetry anthologies. With that in mind, I want to enhance what we already have with new titles and authors that they have been mentioning throughout the year.
I can't wait for April to come—the National Month of Poetry. I hope, by then, that my students can feast their eyes on this diverse and engaging array of books that will introduce them to stylish and engaging verse.
