My students need one iPod Touch with a case to add to the class set already in process. My students also need the iTunes gift card to purchase audiobooks from iTunes.
It is Monday, 5th period, my small group of students who are at risk of not passing filter into my room. They have the hopes and dreams of succeeding just like everyone, but they need a little extra encouragement. This is where our school's tutoring program steps in. These students attend a tutoring lab daily where they see a different core subject teacher to help them to become successful in the everyday setting.
The majority of these students struggle in the area of reading comprehension and multi step math computations. They are embarrassed in the regular classroom setting to ask for additional help because more attention will be brought to their area of weakness. Audiobooks can be purchased and placed on the Ipods and students can interact and read along with the narrator. Right now, the students are reading Animal Farm by Orwell which correlates to the Russian Revolution. With these new tech gadgets, students would be hooked and excited to actually read this required novel.
My classroom would like to be equipped with Ipods and Itunes. This would give a chance for all of my students to receive additional guidance and assistance in their subject matter. Itunes is full of free downloads and audiobooks. Itunes Univ. has over a 1,000 of step by step lessons on virtually every objective in any core subject matter - science experiments, grammar lessons to even an algebra teacher instructing the slope method using skis. Students love it!
Our young people of today are technological natives and we adults are just mere technological immigrants. These Ipods and audiobooks are just like our handheld tape recorder we took into class to records notes or our books on tape we rented from public library and listened to! These new gadgets allow the teachers to record lessons and students take home and receive additional guidance and reinforcement. Amazing!
