Help me give my students a classroom library of books that represent them. Playing Battleship will help them conceptualize the coordinate plane. Pencils are always needed!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are beginning to shape into young adults, no longer children. They are social and love to communicate. They have a deep connection with each other and their school. They have a passion for learning. They are the rising stars.
They are generation Z, they learn best with the use of technology and at lightning speed.
They are the seekers of truth and the abolitionist of labels. They adore social media.
They are the future financial analyst, computer support specialists, civil engineers, industrial psychologists, and business operations managers. You name it, they want to be it. The sky is not the limit for these young ladies and gentlemen.
My Project
I want to give my students every opportunity. I am their math teacher, but I also teach them SEL, social-emotional leaning.
I want my student to see themselves as beautiful black and brown students.
My students partake in a book study each Wednesday. I want to expose them to books written and depicting people of color. I would like for them to choose their next book to study from this group of books. I also want to give them the opportunity to borrow the books from the classroom library.
I want my students to love geometry. I want them to conceptualize the coordinate plane. I believe that learning by playing Battleship will help.
