Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This Title I exceptional school is in the fourth year of a medical and health sciences program where we try to wring out every cent so that our students have the same opportunities that other areas enjoy. I want to help my students by providing them limitless learning to remove barriers and allow them the opportunity to shine in our STEAM based curriculum. It is important that our students are active learners that embrace cultural diversity and equality as well as see these qualities reflected within my 21st century classroom of hope.
In spite of these challenges, our school of learning ranks highly on all high-stakes testing required.
Our science and math scores are consistently higher each year among our ESE and ELL populations because of these amazing opportunities to enrich the curriculum.

My Project
We live in a 21st century world where the majority of my Title I students bring a cell phone to school. Excessive cell phone usage during class could be a major disciplinary problem if the students do not see storing their phone as a benefit. I have a storage area in my room, but cell phones do need to be charged. One positive solution would be to create a charging station within my classroom away from students' desks.
Their phones would be charging during class, and provide for more effective classroom management as well as the opportunity for direct instruction.
The requested materials also include cork boards for some 'old school messaging so that sharing important updates are part of each day.The charging stations and cords will make a difference in my students' learning by removing their focus from the latest messages on their ever present cell phones to classroom learning objectives.
