This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school has a little more than 1/3 of our school population on free and reduced priced lunches. "I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand," Confucius said, and hands-on manipulation is the same way that my first graders acquire concepts. My students are inquisitive, always excited and ready to engage in new activities and learning experiences, and thrive on almost anything hands-on.
Hands-on manipulation solidifies abstract learning into concrete learning!
Showing and sharing your learning is important in my classroom, and something we have done for years. I try to use and incorporate materials, resources, and activities that allow my students to "show what they know".
My Project
I'm requesting a Phonics & Reading Listening Program to utilize during our Learning Stations. These Listening Center materials are self-checking, engaging, interactive with the student, and can be played independently or collaboratively, with or without Teacher direction.
These materials will allow students to facilitate their own learning while pulling from prior knowledge and experiences to apply to the new learning concept.
This hands-on activity also allows for more focused engagement and time on task. The differing levels and variety of skilled activities support differentiation of all learning types. The graphics and upbeat music in each activity also help make this material more fun and engaging for the students.
