Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a 5th grade Special Education teacher who is desperately looking to create a vibrant technology station for my students. I work in East New York where most of my students come from disadvantaged homes.
My students are between the ages of 10 and 11 years old, and they cannot even read at their grade level.
It breaks my heart because these students are going through the system being promoted and they do not have the basic skills that are needed to succeed in the future. Unfortunately, this happens because students who are in Special Education are usually placed on the "back burner" as opposed to their counterparts in regular education. They are usually the forgotten souls of the school when it comes to resources, materials, special events, etc. Many of my students are diagnosed with learning disabilities
My Project
I am requesting an Acer laptop for my students to have in our classroom. Having this technology in our classroom would provide more students the chance to revise their writing, do research, practice math, and become more experienced at using technology. By providing us with a laptop, you will increase their learning opportunities exponentially.The Acer laptop will also be used at center time for the students to be able to learn to navigate the world wide web.
Finally, the Acer laptop will be used to Skype with other classrooms, participate in educational Internet projects and give our class the opportunity to take virtual field trips.
The ability for my students to be able to use this laptop will help them to meet their technology goals and keep them up to date with the latest technology. A donation to this project will help to keep my students knowledge of technology current so they can be successful learners.
