This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students love learning new things, especially anything Science related! I teach in a title one low income school. My students struggle with reading, so much so that we are required to teach an extra hour of reading each school day.
My students LOVE science so I like to infuse it into my reading block.
These magazines spark a ton of interest with my students during their reading centers. They love the illustrations, activities, and all the new cool facts they can learn within the pages of the articles. I hope to see all my students get their hands on these magazines this year in the classroom!
My Project
The majority of my students are struggling readers, especially with non fiction texts. My students love anything to do with Science related topics. The Scholastic News and Science Spin magazines allow each student to receive their very own copy of the exciting monthly issue. The students will be able to read non fiction articles and complete numerous science related activities with each issue.
Scholastic News magazines have engaging text features and enriching science vocabulary too.
The best part is that when they are done with the magazine in the classroom they will be able to take them home. The students can then read and share what they learned in class with their family members at home!
